By Plane:

From John F. Kennedy:

Taxi: ONLY select yellow cabs. Cost: $45 (flat fee) + toll ($5). Time: 35 - 40 minutes. Tell the driver to take the Triborough/RFK Bridge. Don’t forget 15% tips.

Train: Take Airtrain $8 to the subway station at Jamaica. From Jamaica: take the E train to Port Authority - 42nd Street. Switch to A train going towards Uptown (other side of the tracks). Take the uptown A train (blue) to 125th Street. Get off the train at 125th station but stay on the same platform, take the B or C for one stop to 135th street/St. Nicholas. Exit on 135th Street and walk to Frederick Douglass Blvd, then three blocks south to 132nd Street.
Cost: $2.20 Time: Door-to-door = approximately 1.5 - 2 hours.

From LaGuardia Airport:

Taxi: yellow cab costs about $25 + plus tolls ($5). Time: 15 - 20 minutes.

Bus: Take the M60 bus to Adam Clayton Powell Blvd (7th Ave)/125th Street corner. Walk up to 132nd Street. Cost: $2.75 in coins or metrocard. Time: 30 minutes on the bus.

From Newark

Taxi: Take any cab, which can cost from $50 - $70 (plus tolls $11). Be careful with this option, as the cab drivers from New Jersey may not know the City that well and your fare may get even higher. Very expensive option.

Bus: Take the Olympia bus to the Port Authority/42nd Street.. Cost of bus: $15, Cost of subway: $2.25, or you could catch a cab from midtown (42nd Street): about $15.

Train: Take the AirTrain/NJ transit to New York Penn Station (about 35 minutes). Transfer to the Uptown 2 or 3 train to 135th Street. From there, walk west to Adam Clayton Powell Blvd, then south three blocks to 132nd Street. Cost of train: $15, Cost of subway: $2.75


Metrocard Information:

Metrocards can be bought in any denomination more than $2.75. In addition there is a weekly metrocard for $30. If you buy a regular metrocard for $20, you get 15% additional added to the face value of your card, i.e. 10 trips for the price of 9 with $0.50 balance.
